Parijatha remains one of the oldest, largest and most traditional rooms at Orchid Tree with its terracotta structure and old Kerala-style architecture. With distinct yellow walls and the blooming glossy leaves of the Serpent Tree wrinkling around the edges all the way around the parapet., the house feels like an enigma unto itself – almost like a page taken off a Ruskin Bond novel. The stark glossy green catches your eye in the way the leaves wrap themselves around the bright yellow walls. Right in front of Parijatha lies an antique vase made out of cut lava rock, which further adds to the charm of the place.
As you enter an upside down Aloe Vera hanging above on the ceiling draws your attention. The tree was once a discarded wayside plant that now flourishes on a roof, much like most of the plants in and around this room. Hanging an Aloe Vera at the entrance of a home has its own significance and is said to bring good wishes, unified energies and prosperity upon its inhabitants.
Once inside, a gigantic rock peeps through the glass windows and is further accentuated by the sharp-edges of lush palm leaves. Parijatha is the only room in all of Orchid Tree that has been laid brick-by-brick by the owner – a landscape artist with over 20 years of experience. His attention to detail, and the after-thought that went into the room is well evident in not just the placement of trees outside, but also in the burnt-out wooden plank that acts as a room divider and adds to the romance of the room. On the other side of the wall panel, intricate butterflies fly high as an artistic masterpiece – handmade by the architect and designer of the property. Parijatha is the most personalised of all the rooms and is the brainchild and extension of the architect himself.
Adjacent to the room is a steam room, a private spa and an open to sky shower for a relaxed and laid back time with nature.
Parijatha is a pet and family-friendly room and can accommodate up to four adults. Read more
